June Instagram Roundup

So let’s just pretend I’ve just said a bunch of cliché things about how I haven’t blogged in forever and I need to be better about it and long time, no see…etc. and get down to it. I’ve been posting so many outfits on Instagram but failing to update them all on my blog. I wanted to give you guys a roundup of some of my favorite Instagram looks and where all the items of the outfit are from. I incorporated a lot of repeat items to show versatility in re-wearing staple items in different ways. It is “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles so I deemed it appropriate to start with some long sleeve/pants looks for gloomier/cooler weather and then transition down to more spring/summer looks. That was a lot of slashes. Anyways…enjoy!

It’s finally feeling like fall in LA! Here is my first official fall outfit post of the year. Also as you may have noticed, I finally have some quality photos on here, thanks to my good friend Ashley Fischer who is dabbling in some photography and looking to sharpen her skills (I’d say she did an amazing job!) all the while making my blog look a whole lot more legit. Check out her awesome blog here!

I got this amazing slouchy knit sweater at Shoot the Moon LA. Like you’ve heard me say many times before, you can check it out here, and all the other awesome clothes and jewelry. Use the discount code HAYLEY10 to get 10% off your purchase.

This is called the “Four Seasons Cardi”, and for good reason. It’s light weight and would look great worn over a summer dress or with a tank and shorts, but it’s very fall appropriate with jeans/leggings and boots. It’s become my new go-to sweater. I love the multi color threading in black and white as well. I’m seeing a lot of sweaters with this coloring lately and it just gives off a cozy yet trendy look without being sloppy. Best of all, it’s so comfortable!

I wore this sweater with a loose white-t, black liquid leggings and camel booties. I love mixing camel and black. I decided to wear a necklace to match the boots to really bring out the brown to offset the black and white. Since liquid leggings can easily give off an edgier look, which is ok, I did want this to be more of a cozy fall look. I think the brown and gold accents accomplish that goal.

I am looking forward to more fall fashion and sharing with you guys what I’m finding to be “in vogue” this season without breaking the bank!

Have a fun and safe Halloween and until next time…

California dreamin’…..of fall fashion

NativeAmericanInspired2 NativeAmericanInspired1 FeatherNecklace

When you live in Southern California you never really get a proper Autumn season. It’s a tiny tragedy for me since fall is my favorite time of the year. Not only for it’s beautiful colors and crisp cool weather, but for the fashion. I keep trying to wear sweaters and boots and find myself overheating in the hot sun. I’m not giving up hope though.

But not to fear… (because I know how terrified you all are for me and my FOMO on fall fashion), it does cool down eventually and then I can bust out the good stuff. Until then it’s a bit of an awkward transitional period. It’s practically October so it feels strange wearing flip flops and a sun dress, but the weather says otherwise. I like to keep it breezy but sprinkle in the fall fashion.

I opted for a thin black sweater and an Aztec inspired print skirt. I added a pair of suede olive booties and my new Shoot the Moon LA feather necklace to keep with the Native American theme (get one for yourself or check out all the other awesome affordable pieces! Discount code HAYLEY10 gets you 10% off your purchase!).

In the evening I switched out the suede boots for black leather heel booties, took out my braid and spruced up my makeup and VOILA I’m ready for a night out!

As fun as this faux fall outfit is, I’m so ready for scarves and layering. Bring on Autumn Los Angeles!

Look of the week- Brown, Black, Navy and… Seafoam Green!? It can be done people.

It’s almost Christmas and that means low 60’s in LA… BRR! Just kidding…I’m from Michigan. This is awesome.

NAVY SWEATER OUTFIT

But that doesn’t mean I don’t still rock winter fashion. It’s still pretty chilly at night and a sweater, peacoat and boots is completely reasonable to wear. Thank god for that because if it was too warm to wear fall/winter clothes here I would feel so unfulfilled fashion wise! Comfy sweaters and cute boots are what I  live for!

NAVY SWEATER SIDE

Last night I went to The Grove (awesome huge outdoor mall in LA) with my boyfriend to walk around and soak up the Christmas atmosphere there. It’s beautiful. Huge Christmas tree, Santa, lights everywhere… but I must admit, the moment we walked into Nordstrom was when I really felt all warm and fuzzy inside. ….What? I’m Jewish anyways!

NAVY SWEATER BAG

Then we saw American Hustle and if this were a movie review blog I would go on and on about how amazing it was, but I’ll just say… see it!! SO good… and awesome fashion too 🙂

NAVY SWEATER SHOES

So, who says you can’t wear brown, black AND navy together? Not me! You totally can if you do it right. With this outfit I paired an oversized navy knit sweater with bright seafoam green jeans (lovely color combo) and THEN added accents of brown with my shoes and bag… or what I like to call “camel” more so than actual brown. I also wore a black peacoat over it and thought it all came together really well.

NAVY SWEATER COAT

I particularly love these pants because I think the color can be appropriate all year round, winter summer spring or fall (in case you didn’t know all the seasons of the year?).

NAVY SWEATER NECKLACE

The last touch was the navy and gold statement necklace to lay over the navy sweater. It subtly pops (oxymoron yes, but it’s true). If you’re going to match the color of your necklace to your shirt make sure it has one other color in it even if it’s just silver or gold and that’s all you need to make it pop!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Pinterest- the gateway drug

Aztec inspired sweaterI shall warn you all….Pinterest is a gateway drug  to shopaholism. Yes I already had signs of being a shopaholic very early on in life, but once I was introduced to Pinterest it was all down hill from there. I not only live in a very fashion forward city where I see new trends all the time, but I am addicted to Pinterest, where trends are brought to my attention and then thrown in my face over and over and over again telling me “YOU NEED THIS IN ORDER TO LIVE A HAPPY LIFE”.

Now, I’m all about being a trend SETTER, not always a follower, but in my opinion personal STYLE is more of an expression of yourself than whether or not you follow or set trends. It’s how you wear current trends, how you put outfits together that is the art of it all.

I’m sure many of you can relate with me on being PINspired to go shopping (see what I did there?). The main problem is most of us just don’t have endless amounts of money to go out and buy everything we see on Pinterest.

Here are the things that I consider so as not to go out and buy every single new trend:

1. Is it practical? Something you could wear with many different outfits, a neutral color, not too dressy (for those of us who aren’t getting dressed for cocktail parties on a daily basis), comfortable, something you’d want to wear every day, something that would be flattering on you…

2. Is it something you could foresee as still being fashionable in years to come? A classic staple. Not overly trendy.

3. Can you stop thinking about it? If you see a trend and find yourself noticing every other person who has it and being extremely envious of them and lay awake at night lusting after it, just do yourself a favor… get it! You can have it too ya know! As long as you’re selective with the things you want to splurge on, it’s ok!

4. Can you find something similar to it for cheaper than what’s shown on Pinterest? brown combat boots w outfitDon’t just click on the Pinterest link and buy it for hundreds of dollars. Take your time to look around and see if you can find similar trends at cheaper stores. The trend isn’t going anywhere for a while, just relax and wait until you see the best deal. (This has always been the most difficult feat for me. When I want something I want it NOW).

So– following all these rules, there were two trends I went for in the past few weeks.

A. Combat boots

B. Aztec print sweater

I’ve always been a fan of both boots and chunky sweaters in fall/winter time, but I LOVE the aztec print I’m seeing around. Also can’t get enough of combat boots. I just think they can look cute with so many different things, even with dresses or skirts and tights.

In the first picture shown, I am wearing an open front aztec print sweater from Urban Outfitters (can be purchased here). I will admit they have these everywhere and very similar styles at places like Forever 21 where you can get them even cheaper than I did (similar look).

I DID do a good job though on bargain shopping for these combat boots shown in the second two pictures. A place called Lexy Couture in the Burbank Town Center mall is just full of crazy cheap trendy shoes. Not only do these look like they could be expensive leather boots, but they’re super comfortable as well. It was buy one get one half off, so I also got a pair of black combat boots as combat boots brownwell. Two pairs of combat boots for 50 bucks! Gotta give myself a pat on the back for that one. (Shown with oversized navy knit sweater from Gap, Jeans from Urban Outfitters, Necklace from J.Crew)

What are the trends you can’t get enough of this fall season?
