The Go-To Button Up

This Top Shop button up has become my new go-to shirt. It’s been a perfect transitional piece from summer to fall. I can wear it with shorts and sandals for a laid-back summer look or with jeans and booties in the fall. It’s super soft and I love the navy and off white grid print. I’m also a big fan of the half tuck with button ups or oversized tops. It can even be dressed up with a navy pencil skirt or trousers and a statement necklace for work. I just may be living in this button up until it falls apart.

June Instagram Roundup

So let’s just pretend I’ve just said a bunch of cliché things about how I haven’t blogged in forever and I need to be better about it and long time, no see…etc. and get down to it. I’ve been posting so many outfits on Instagram but failing to update them all on my blog. I wanted to give you guys a roundup of some of my favorite Instagram looks and where all the items of the outfit are from. I incorporated a lot of repeat items to show versatility in re-wearing staple items in different ways. It is “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles so I deemed it appropriate to start with some long sleeve/pants looks for gloomier/cooler weather and then transition down to more spring/summer looks. That was a lot of slashes. Anyways…enjoy!

Just Your Average Saturday

Top: Forever 21 | Pants: J.Crew | Bag: Urban Outfitters | Sandals: American Eagle

I’m not here to talk about what I wore to Coachella although I secretly wish I was. I’m just here to talk about what I wore on a normal Saturday spent in Studio City, CA, going out to eat and running errands. When it comes to every day style, I’m all about comfort, flattery and simple chic looks. I’m really into being able to throw on a light, airy, pseudo crop top and then getting creative with what bottoms to pair it with, whether it be jeans, shorts or these drawstring pants pictured here.

I’ve also noticed I’ve been adding many shades of blue as I build my wardrobe. It seems to have become a staple neutral for me. I added a colorful bag with this outfit because I felt it complimented the shirt quite well. I also like incorporating pops of color into my otherwise neutral outfits. To top it off, a pair of white strappy sandals and I’m ready to face my… rather uneventful day. A good outfit can definitely put an extra pep in your step even if you have nothing to get ready for or no one to impress. Do it for yourself. And be creative with pieces that you feel comfortable in. While I love the idea of other bloggers or fashion icons inspiring you (it’s where I am always getting inspiration from) don’t feel you have to jump on board with every single trend or completely copy anyone else’s style. There are many trends out there that I feel as a fashion blogger, I am supposed to get on board with, but it’s just not me. I like to “stay in vogue” as I say, but am careful not to lose sight of what I truly want to wear, not what I think I’m supposed to wear.

A lot of the pieces in this post are many years old, but it’s working in 2015 when put together correctly. Try taking another look at your closet in a new light before feeling defeated and wishing you could go on a shopping spree. Lastly, remember that confidence is everything!

California dreamin’…..of fall fashion

NativeAmericanInspired2 NativeAmericanInspired1 FeatherNecklace

When you live in Southern California you never really get a proper Autumn season. It’s a tiny tragedy for me since fall is my favorite time of the year. Not only for it’s beautiful colors and crisp cool weather, but for the fashion. I keep trying to wear sweaters and boots and find myself overheating in the hot sun. I’m not giving up hope though.

But not to fear… (because I know how terrified you all are for me and my FOMO on fall fashion), it does cool down eventually and then I can bust out the good stuff. Until then it’s a bit of an awkward transitional period. It’s practically October so it feels strange wearing flip flops and a sun dress, but the weather says otherwise. I like to keep it breezy but sprinkle in the fall fashion.

I opted for a thin black sweater and an Aztec inspired print skirt. I added a pair of suede olive booties and my new Shoot the Moon LA feather necklace to keep with the Native American theme (get one for yourself or check out all the other awesome affordable pieces! Discount code HAYLEY10 gets you 10% off your purchase!).

In the evening I switched out the suede boots for black leather heel booties, took out my braid and spruced up my makeup and VOILA I’m ready for a night out!

As fun as this faux fall outfit is, I’m so ready for scarves and layering. Bring on Autumn Los Angeles!

Pinterest Recreation- Effortless Class

PINK SKIRT RECREATIONI was scrolling through Pinterest and this one (far left) caught my eye. I love an A-line skirt over a casual cotton top. Navy and white stripes paired with pink seems to be really in lately.

My first impression was that this whole outfit looks pretty expensive and unattainable. But then I realized that the whole purpose of this blog is to show that high fashion looks can be recreated on a budget. I can’t be thinking… “oh looks too expensive” and keep scrolling. So instead, in the words of Barney Stinson, I said to myself… “challenge accepted!”

I believe a good comfy cotton striped shirt, one good statement necklace and a beige trench coat are staple items for ones wardrobe. They are versatile and can be worn a million different ways a million different days (I just made that up, can I coin that phrase?). So there’s 3 things from the outfit right there that I realized I actually already have. If you don’t have them, you absolutely should and can for CHEAP!

The top I used is a little fancier than what’s needed here, but you can get a top like this (minus the sequins) anywhere… Target, Forever 21, JC Penny…etc. I got this trench coat at Marshall’s for maybe 30 bucks and you would never know it. The necklace I got at Forever 21 for maybe 15 bucks. So there ya go!

A pink A-line skirt however isn’t exactly a necessity for your closet, but I actually had this one (which I’ve yet to wear), from YEARS ago. It is from Target. I never really could decide what it would look good with, which is why scrolling through Pinterest is great inspiration. So voila! I’ve made a very creative outfit with it. I think this outfit would look equally as cute though with a black A-line skirt or really almost any solid bright color.

So there ya go, a very classy expensive looking outfit recreated from honestly some of the oldest, cheapest items in my closet.

Pinterest Recreation- Light teal skinny jeans, white-t, gray leather jacket

lighttealpantsgrayjacketBack again with another Pinterest recreation for you guys! I plan to share one of these every Sunday. I will use Pinterest to inspire my outfits for the week and show you what I was able to come up with.

What’s that saying? “Stop looking for what you don’t have and be thankful for what you do have”… something cheesy like that. Apply that to your wardrobe. If you’re always looking at magazines and Pinterest for what you DON’T have, you may end up with a bad shopping problem. But if you browse with the intent of finding things you DO have, you will feel like you already own an abundance of things to work with, and be thankful for it (in the spirit of Thanksgiving)!

I find that every item of this outfit here is a staple that can be used with many different things. Of course a white t (this one is from Urban Outfitters) you can do endless things with. I love this gray faux leather Jacket (Target) because I feel it puts a tailored finishing touch on an otherwise simple outfit as well as can dress down a fancier outfit. The light teal jeans are the perfect way to wear colored pants but still keep it subtle and not overly loud or colorful. I can’t remember where I got these, it was from a boutique type store a while back.

Anyways, I encourage you guys to be thankful for what you have and do your own Pinterest recreations! Send them to me and you could be featured on my blog!
