The Go-To Button Up

This Top Shop button up has become my new go-to shirt. It’s been a perfect transitional piece from summer to fall. I can wear it with shorts and sandals for a laid-back summer look or with jeans and booties in the fall. It’s super soft and I love the navy and off white grid print. I’m also a big fan of the half tuck with button ups or oversized tops. It can even be dressed up with a navy pencil skirt or trousers and a statement necklace for work. I just may be living in this button up until it falls apart.

70’s Retro Revival – Fashion Making a Comeback

I’m loving 70’s inspired looks this season. Wide leg jeans and super flares are everywhere right now. Embroidered peasant tops are also making a comeback and I’m not complaining. This look made me wish I lived in 70’s. Since it is 2015 though, try incorporating just one or two 70’s inspired pieces into your outfit to avoid looking like you’re going to a throwback costume party. Some other ideas for this amazing fall trend are booties, burgundy, tan, mustard yellow, suede, shift dresses, floral prints, fringe, button up denim skirts, clogs and wide brimmed hats.

One Is Silver And The Other’s Gold

Since moving out to Los Angeles, it hasn’t been super easy to make friends that compare to my friends back home. It used to make me feel homesick until I realized that I would never be able to replicate that and that’s ok. That’s why they are so important to me and we make such an effort to visit each other even though we’re all scattered across the country. They are irreplaceable.

That being said, I’ve come to realize the great value of the new friends I have made in LA. I truly believe that people come into your life at specific times for a reason. I feel that since I’ve moved out here, the people who have come into mine are now my new irreplaceables. I have somehow unintentionally, but very luckily surrounded myself with people who have accepted me, motivated me, inspired me and supported me so incredibly much. I don’t know how I could ever repay these kinds of friends.

These photos and this outfit tell a story that goes beyond just pics for a fashion blog. The shirt and necklace were lent to me by my friend after I told her that her outfit was adorable and I wanted to feature it on my blog. I meant that I wanted to take pictures of her in it, but next thing I know, she’s literally taking the shirt off her back for me and she gave it to me to wear for a blog post. I decided to pair it with white cut off shorts because I’m super into the white on white look right now!

My other friend is the one who took these photos. She enjoys photography, I enjoy doing fashion blog pics and we enjoy hanging out with each other…so that’s all there is to it. She asks for nothing in return. It’s friends like these that I am so incredibly grateful for. She also pushed me to start this blog, she helped me design it and she referred me for a part time job as a stylist at StitchFix.com, WHICH I GOT! I look at where I was before I moved out here and how certain things were only a far fetched dream and where I am now… a fashion stylist and blogger. I may not have tons of followers, but this is my passion and I’m doing it. That’s what matters.

Thank you to my old friends who continue to love and support me unconditionally like sisters and to my new friends who I already feel like I’ve known forever who not only constantly push me to be my best self but take their time and energy to help me get there. I appreciate these people so incredibly much!

June Instagram Roundup

So let’s just pretend I’ve just said a bunch of cliché things about how I haven’t blogged in forever and I need to be better about it and long time, no see…etc. and get down to it. I’ve been posting so many outfits on Instagram but failing to update them all on my blog. I wanted to give you guys a roundup of some of my favorite Instagram looks and where all the items of the outfit are from. I incorporated a lot of repeat items to show versatility in re-wearing staple items in different ways. It is “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles so I deemed it appropriate to start with some long sleeve/pants looks for gloomier/cooler weather and then transition down to more spring/summer looks. That was a lot of slashes. Anyways…enjoy!

New favorite harem pants- Shoot the Moon LA

hammerpantsfront hammerpantsside hammerpantsback hammerpantsnecklace

I absolutely love these harem pants! They are just the right amount of sexy and comfortable. They have zipper detailing on the bottom sides and a simple draw string waist band. The slouchy fit makes for an exceptionally relaxed yet sleek and tailored look for work, a night out, or travel. I think it’s a must-have staple in any fashionistas wardrobe!

You can own these pants for yourself by visiting www.shootthemoonla.com. Enter the discount code HAYLEY10 to get 10% off your purchase! I became a rep for this website because it has so many amazing clothes and jewelry at super affordable prices (which is what my blog is all about!).

This online shop has boutique, unique and high fashion looks for cheap. I have ordered several things from here and I can tell you first hand it’s also quality material! I’m a big fan of the beautiful necklaces which are sure to stir up attention and compliments. I’m about to order this one right now!

I paired these harem pants with a light and flowy Urban Outfitters top. I love tops with a simple front and playful back. This shirt has one of my favorite backs… I must have a thing for zippers. The front is also shorter than the back. With these pants it looks best with a shirt that’s cropped right above the waist line or with a shirt tucked in. The pants are supposed to have a baggy look but would be too much with a long baggy shirt.

I added a gold and black detailed statement necklace, red lips and black lace up bootie heels and headed out downtown. I received many compliments on my outfit and danced the night away in style and comfort. Beauty doesn’t have to be pain ladies!

Grunge and Glam Pinterest Re-creation

grungenglam

90’s grudge is back with a less-greasy and touch of glam twist. I love mixing and matching themes with my style. I saw this look on Pinterest (pictured left) and was excited I had what it took to re-create it (pictured right).

I’ve held on to this plaid button up for many years… I mean, it’s from Delia’s. Do you guys remember Delia’s? Pretty sure it was cool when I was in middle school, but hey some things are just classic and that’s how I feel about this shirt. It was one of those things I just couldn’t let go of.

There are so many different things that can be done with plaid from casual to dressy. If you ever have an item in your closet that you’re holding on to but not sure why or how to wear it anymore, go to Pinterest and get ideas!

I love this idea of pairing casual plaid with an Aztec inspired necklace and shiny black leggings to dress it up. Trade out the heels for black strappy sandals and you have a perfect day look that can be transformed with a pair of heels for an effortless yet sexy night out on the town.

Bust out that old grungy plaid and put your own glam twist on it! It doesn’t have to cost much… see below for all the super affordable places I got the items in my outfit.

It’s a Party in the USA

redwhiteblueI fought with myself on making the title of this post a Miley Cyrus song lyric, but it is what it is, ok? Leave me alone, I do what I want… like Miley Cyrus. But whatever… that beef we have is done with.

Today I’m celebrating America in all red white and blue. I love being festive for the holidays. I used to feel the need to go shopping for a new festive outfit for every Fourth of July. I was borderline obsessive about getting the perfect outfit. Now that I’m a mature, level-headed adult (yeah I’m pushin’ it), I realized it’s not about the outfit, it’s about our country. Just kidding, I realized that I have plenty to work with in my closet already!

I bought this skirt in 2007 at Forever 21. When I bought it, it was ahead of it’s time, but I’m glad I’ve held on to it as it’s still stylish today! I paired it with a red tank and some festive jewelry. Simple as that!

Everyone have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend! And from a full blown hypochondriac, remember to wear sun screen!

I’m Blue…Da Ba Dee Da Ba Die

Going on dates with myself is one of my favorite things to do. Usually when I take myself out on a date, I’m not overly concerned with what I look like because who do I have to impress? I’m not going to not call myself again after the date.

Today though, I decided I was going to impress myself. I was feeling inspired by the bright colors and blue skies here in Cali and dressed in shades of blue. My outfit in turn inspired me to sing “I’m Blue” by Eiffel 65 in my head all day (gotta love the 90’s). Not to mention, putting on a cute outfit and walking outside is one of the best things you can do if you’re feeling a little blue (I’m really running with this whole blue theme, work with me here).

I wore my boyfriend jeans for a date sans the boyfriend and I had a great time! I suggest everyone does this at LEAST once a week. I’m a pretty cool date if I do say so myself.

Celebrity Outfit Recreation- Miranda Kerr style

Came across this lovely photo of Miranda Kerr who I absolutely adore. I decided to recreate her look. I have a long black maxi dress and a jean jacket, and that’s really all there is to it. Which is why it’s great. I love the simplicity of it. For some of you this outfit may be more appropriate for Spring or Summer. So to those people…I hate to rub it in, but I wore this today on January 12th because… well…it’s 77 degrees in LA! Don’t hate. But keep this outfit in your back pocket for when Spring arrives.

BLACK MAXI DRESS RECREATION

It’s effortless style like this that models like Miranda Kerr are all about. I can only try to embody that vibe. You don’t have to be a Victoria’s Secret model to feel sexy and casual. A black maxi dress will absolutely do the trick for anyone. It’s slimming, flattering, elongates your body…etc. If you’re short, wear a maxi dress with wedges and it’ll help the feeling like you’re swimming in it.

BLACK MAXI PURSE

Now on to my own personal touches. Accessories. My blush leather handbag from J.Crew. This was a splurge Christmas present for myself. As I’ve said before, I believe handbags are not something to skimp on. I love this bag as it can be a shoulder bag or a cross body. The leather is very strong and soft and the color is a new trend this season. It’s unique yet neutral.

BLACK MAXI SUNGLASSES SIDE

Cat eye sunglasses from Ralph Lauren. These are so fun. The front part is purple and the sides are tortoise. I never thought I’d wear purple sunglasses, but I like how you can only tell in the sunlight, otherwise they look black.

BLACK MAXI SUNGLASSES FRONT

Lastly, my every day gold and horn watch by Michael Kors.
